Inspiration Workshop: Photographing Identity
Thursday, March 30
7–9 p.m.
Art on Hulfish (11 Hulfish Street)
Join us for a night celebrating photography and portraiture. Be inspired by the art featured in the exhibition You Belong Here: Place, People, and Purpose in Latinx Photography before getting your own portrait taken by artist Chris Lopez. Fabrics for backdrops and art-making materials will be provided so that each portrait can be truly unique. Every participant gets to take home a print of their work. Food and drink (plus alcohol for those 21+) will be served.
You Belong Here celebrates the dynamic expressions of Latinx photographers across the United States, including artists who address themes of family and community, fashion and culture, and the complexity of identity in American life. The exhibit is curated by Pilar Tompkins Rivas, chief curator and deputy director, Curatorial and Collections at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, and organized by Aperture.
This event is part of the Museum’s Late Thursdays programming, made possible in part by Heather and Paul G. Haaga Jr., Class of 1970, with additional support from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
